Epic battle in Alenia. You know it!

Postby Flincher14 on Fri Jul 23, 2010 3:55 am

I joined RVB on monday on the blue team and I'm loving it. Milindia is an excellent FC and I've even gotten to try my hand at FCing with fair success/failure. Anyways I wanted to shout out to everyone who participated in the epic battle on the Tourier gate in Alenia.

Story:

To start blue team saw the big red fleet coming from a mile away (we had an awesome covert ops player watching you guys every step of the way). We decided to limit our ships to frigates and cruisers only. Milindia called for everyone who could, to ship into a sniper ship, me included, which equaled about 5 caracals a hurricane and dessie sniper. Well the plan was to have the main bulk of our fleet engage red on a gate and have the snipers warp in behind at optimal range and just deliever as much pain as possible. But every time we tried to move the sniper fleet Peggy Hill in her rifter was 100km off the gate we wanted to use :) and our covert ops was constantly reporting that all of red fleet is pulling in their drones and leaving the gate camp in: Merollez/Alentene gate, Tourier/Merollez and Alenia gate. Red started getting a little pee'd off about waiting for an engagement but if red would've sat still we would've been able to engage. Anyways eventually we get all of blue fleet at optimals on Alenia/ Tourier gate. Red fleet is on the other side. The most expensive BC lost on Red team that fight jumps through solo and as a harbinger it pops rather easily. Then the rest of red team engages. Milindia promptly calls out targets which we erase using the main fleet as points and the snipers as effective dps (brilliant plan Milindia). The fight is going good for blue as even though we were mildly outgunned we had the drop and the optimals to come ahead until as the fight went on for roughly 10 minutes our covert ops sitting on Alenia gate in Tourier calls out Drake after Drake after Thrasher after xinfinity. Unfortunatly red is able to reship faster than we do and they also decided to bring 8 drakes which we just couldn't point and pop so we ignored. The battle was quickly becoming one sided, Milindia was calling for BS but it was taking to long to get them in the battle so the decision was made to retreat and regroup on the Alenia gate in Alentene. Milindia promptly d/c'd and another FC took over. Both red and blue were having a blast though we were PO'd that the 50+wrecks with loot in Alenia was going to red. So with our 2 ravens and multiple other battleships we warped back onto the Tourier gate in Alenia and smartly the Red team pulled out immediatly. We manage to loot about half of what was destroyed and flew home (damn neutral salvagers). Red continued to do a smaller fleet roam but I don't know how that went.

Anyways that battle was epic and as we were counting killmails we saw how the Red team spent absurd amounts of isk on all their fits. (Cruisers that cost more than a BC, Frigates that cost more than a cruiser) But this was good cause even though we lost more ship we lost less isk and we enjoyed the feeling of superior tactics and t1 FIYA POWAH managing to duke it out with the amount of isk fielded.

I hope to see another of these kind of battles during my time in RVB espically since it wasn't a planned fight.

Post your comments and favorite killmails or things you liked about the fight.

PS: Both teams are great.

-== Intro ==-

Let me now give the red version of the fight. Lately i enjoy R-V-B more due to the fact that i have been in the two SIDES of the conflict, with multiple accounts and personalities. No, never spy or a wt hidden. I am cool and lover of this rvb.

I loged in lookin for pvp, moved around a bit until i saw a fleet goin...i joined. There was already a lot of peeps in the red fleet. They asked for a cruiser, thus i jumped into my arbitrator. (Note, RED fc are very pesky about people not overshipping).

The red FC was reciving intel about blue movements, and we were trying to get into a fight. But time passed, and time keep goin wasted and no fight was even drawing close. The red fleet started to get "JUMPY", myself included...i had to admit i always push for a fight.

At some point, (1 h later) somo blues jumped into tourier and warped to ss, so we knew show was about to start. We started to warp from gate to gate, and red FC deployed nice tactics like assing drones to a rifter (and BOOM first blue sniper caracal down). And while blue keeps gathering the fleet we kill a couple more.

We were joking a bit in voice but every1 was itching for a fight. And blues jump in. We align and warp to gate, but some reds refuse to listen to fc and jump, while the rest of us aggro on gate. Blue JUMPS to alenia and:

Red Fc: I didnt tell you to jump...you are gonna die....
Red Members: Omg we are alone here with all the blue fleet....
Red FC: Silence....Silence....
Red Members: Well, lets jump and help them....
Red FC: (After what seemed like 1 year), Ok every1 jump.....

-== The fight Starts ==-

Despite what you think, blues already got some BCs on field when the batlle started, while Red fielded a couple as well, but lost them in the first moment of the battle due to their own mistake. So Red fleet reapproached the gate and primaries were being called. The fight rages for 5 minutes with ships destroyed on both sides. At that point we saw the first blue guy coming back, and inmidiatly RED FC call for reship.

At this point the battle was pretty even, i had a perfect view of the field cause i was mwding off the gate, there was a sniper point for blues very well placed and 2 more caracals on the other side aligned to Alentene gate. So brave i am, i run into those pesky caracals snipers alone, on my own despite what RED FC was calling and:

http://redfed.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_deta ... id=7185386

After soloing the caracal i went back to gate to support the red fleet with my drones, and in the next 5 minutes a lot of BCs are being fielded by both sides, Reds fielding drakes and blues Feroxes and Brutixes. Pretty even still, but again while the Blue fleet used a good tactica, they lacked points. Their lack of points started to pay off to reds, we were warpin to bottom station and repairing, coming back. I even had a fight in the station undock with one Blue vexor, but he was tanked to hell and i disengaged and returned to the main battle.

For the next 2 minutes, the RED FC called for a secondary target caller, he was down. The new FC told the fleet to kill every single frigate or point ship blues still had on field, so we did and promtly all rifters and merlins were doomed and killed.

Now, tourier hq being nearest and due to the fact that blue fleet was lacking points we had more vessels on field and started to isolate the remaining blues. The fight went for a few more minutes, almost reaching half an hour.

-== Conclusion ==-

Both teams did a great job. I admit blues did a superior tactica in positioning the fleet, but there was a flaw in the pinning down factor. Reds did not prepare that well but adapted quickly. The REDS FC were quite experience i told you.

There were a lot of heros, like pie who tackled the hell out of Blues, all the guys that relentless came back in new ships, all the peeps that keep warping back in half struct to support the team, etc.

Congratulations every1.

PD: More opinions wanted.

GREAT fight! I'm really glad that these things happen in RvB, the fleets were quite equal for the first 20-30 minutes of fight!
Grats on all the pilots who brought it, and particularly to the ones bringing more ships to the same fight! If only this heroic act wasn't dirtied, by the different times needed to complete it...
Flincher14 wrote:Unfortunatly red is able to reship faster

Indeed. Blues lost the field to our silly choice of Head Quarters: while we needed a minimum of 3' to reship from HQ, Reds needed around 1.5. Old HQ would have helped immensely: instead of two very long warps, two short ones.

Great write ups from both sides. My impression, as a pilot that kept on the field for the whole time: we had the upper hand for the first twenty minutes of the fight. Then the shorter red supply line let them have relatively more and more ships. Finally reds had 20 on the field against our 7; all the blue pilots were in warp :evil: (and I was left with 2 aurora Ms in the beams :shock: )

Ahinu - indeed, killing blues' points was correct, but it was also all you could do at that late point in the fight: the snipers were out of reach. And it's not like we weren't killing reds' points: the number of frigates killed is about equal (besides, points are overrated :mrgreen: ). The real problem is therefore, the different number of heavier tacklers, which is due to dps, due to the uneven length of supply chain, that the blue command has forced on blue.

Hopefully this fight - the biggest one of many where we have suffered from this - will help blue command reconsider HQ choice!

Yep, the t1 half :lol: Blues are poorer, we fit much less rigs and less t2. Losing the field like this is double bad for us. If we had kept the field, I can imagine that many of the dozens of pilots who participated would have fit t2 next time!

Great fight indeed...although I missed almost half of it... :( My PC shut moments before the fight (overheated graphics card?) and when I managed to come back, I jumped to Alenia and I saw a ton of blues primary-ing my arbitrator. Down goes my poor arby but guess what, I had a Drake fitted and ready in Alenia :evil: WTH I said and I warped to my pod to the station, took the Drake, and warpin back to position, while our FC was calling for reshipping. I never saw how many reds were left, I never saw if blues had more, just blindly following primary called targets... :twisted:

P.S. Flincher14 or somebody that feels like, post your story also here:

Wrong, and that was one of the first few ships down, IIRC.

Yeah, at least Alkis made us loot our own wrecks first before the blue wrecks, so that kinda made things slightly better.

But, it was an AWESOME fight. Without a doubt the best engagement I've been in since I joined!

Hey- I lead up the Auxiliary Sniper Fleet that joined the engagement at the end of the battle..

It was a small group of people 6-7 in Caracals and Arty Ruppies.. that cleared out the few remaining blue pilots..

I remember calling primaries, I remember ships jumping out/warping off halfway through lock times..

It was a fun 180 Seconds :p

Good Fight Blues.. Good Fight Reds.. Hai Neutral Imicus..

This was an epic fight - we were probing your snipers down in Tourier for awhile, but only caught one probing (Peggy nailed another one with the drone swarm). We just landed where your whole sniper group was right before they went into Alenia. We were never running from Blue or avoiding the fight, we were trying to get any Blues that were in Tourier.

From my perspective - the fight was Blues during the first minutes, even for a good long time, then Reds were killing everything at zero - while Blues had no points anymore. Everything that Blue sent in at zero - was quickly dispatched. Then we started grabbing as many snipers as possible.

For the future - LOOT THE FIELD FAST, trade in station with the guys that lost ships. Reds could have easily lost quite a few battlecruisers that were spread out or off the gate (me!) when Blues brought in the Battleship fleet at the end.
