I can't stand having the HUD at the bottom any longer (if you right click the HUD triangle you can select "move up").
The various fleet views are stacked with local and the watch list is normally at the bottom next to the chat window.
Morphe Olorin wrote:I have been using the HUD up top and targets vertically along the left side of the my overview for about a month now and I have to say it is really awesome! If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend you give it a try for a week or two and see how you like it. It makes it so your mouse and eyeballs are not moving around so much, your modules, targeted ships, and overview are all in the upper right corner, so it makes it really quick to switch modules between targets and not have to look up-down-up-down (they are right next to each other instead of at opposite sides of the screen). Another cool thing with having your targets vertically aligned, it that primary target is up top, then secondary below, etc. And when the first guy dies, the ones below shift up, so the main target is always at the top (its a queue for death!)
TL:DR - Try out the HUD up top and targets vertically aligned!! You may be surprised by how awesome it is and how the default orientation is lame
